چکیده
The standard in rod finite element formulations is the Bubnov–Galerkin projection method, where test functions arise from a consistent variation of ansatz functions. This approach becomes increasingly complex when highly nonlinear are chosen to approximate rod's centerline and cross-section orientations. Using Petrov–Galerkin we propose whole family nodal generalized virtual displacements velocities interpolated instead using variations time derivatives leads significant simplification expressions discrete work functionals. In addition, independent strategies can be for interpolating points We discuss three objective interpolation give an in-depth analysis concerning locking convergence behavior formulations.

Finite Element Analysis of Connecting Rod
Abstract—The connecting rod transmits the piston load to the crank causing the latter to turn, thus converting the reciprocating motion of the piston into a rotary motion of the crankshaft. Connecting rods are subjected to forces generated by mass and fuel combustion. This study investigates and compares the fatigue behavior of forged steel, powder forged and ASTM a 514 steel cold quenched conn...
متن کاملDual Formulations of Mixed Finite Element Methods
Abstract Mixed finite element methods solve a PDE using two or more variables. The theory of Discrete Exterior Calculus explains why the degrees of freedom associated to the different variables should be stored on both primal and dual domain meshes with a discrete Hodge star used to transfer information between the meshes. We show through analysis and examples that the choice of discrete Hodge ...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of Stress Concentration around a Blunt Crack in a Cosserat Elastic Solid
The problem of a blunt edge notch of elliptic contour in a strip of Cosserat (micropolar) elastic material under tension has been analyzed via two-dimensional (plane stress) finite element analysis. Both 3-node constant strain triangular elements and 4-node isoparametric elements were used. Three cases were explored: Cosserat characteristic length much less than the crack root radius, equal to ...
متن کاملThree Dimensional Nonlinear Dynamics of Slender Structures: Cosserat Rod Element Approach
In this paper, the modelling strategy of a Cosserat rod element (CRE) is addressed systematically for 3-dimensional dynamical analysis of slender structures. We employ the nonlinear kinematic relationships in the sense of Cosserat theory, and adopt the Bernoulli hypothesis. The Kirchoff constitutive relations are adopted to provide an adequate description of elastic properties in terms of a few...
متن کاملTotal-Lagrangian Formulation and Finite-Element Analysis of Highly Flexible Plates and Shells
Presented here is a new total-Lagrangian displacement-based finite-element formulation for plates and shells undergoing large displacements and rotations. The theory fully accounts for geometric nonlinearities, general initial curvatures, and extensionality by using Jaumann stress and strain measures, an exact coordinate transformation, and orthogonal virtual rotations. Moreover, transverse she...
